Introducing Teachers' Resource Programme for Traditional Arts
Making a vast library of resources accessible!
This site is for teachers who are interested in the study, practice and teaching of Traditional Arts, sometimes also referred to as Ephemeral Arts. It is designed to attract teachers’ contributions in structured manner using a simple framework outlined in http://ephemeralarts.wikispaces.com/ But some teachers have been deterred by this challenge as the wikispace requires them to register first as a wiki member, and then connect with the above site. Clearly, it is not my intention to repeat the content which has been abundantly provided at some of the following sites:
THE MAIN FESTIVAL SITE:
The original FESTIVAL site can be seen at http://www.ephemeralarts.com/ During the festival periods, especially at the peak of the festival season, this site was receiving 6,000 hits per month!
FIRST MAINSTREAM SITE:
The first blog which has tried to mainstream the content and reduce the bias towards South Asian artforms was a great success. It can be seen at
http://ephmeral-arts.blogspot.com/
The festival and its contents is also made available for Q&A by using two dedicated sites, each with a specific purpose.
DEDICATED PROGRAMME SITES:
Project based in London Borough of Newham but also serving the East London boroughs
Please see http://eastendarts.ning.com/ which hopes to attract teachers, artists and students interested in local networking in the East London boroughs of Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Enfield and Hackney. People who submit material to the site and decide to become engaged in the democratic dialogue for establishing a major work programme in East London are invited to join this site and to make their contributions. Teachers may also work on the http://ephemeralarts.wikispaces.com/ site as well.
WELCOMING EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONERS: The Ephemeral Arts Innovators!
Finally, experienced practitioners and creative specialists may contribute their knowledge and skills via http://ephemeralarts.ning.com/
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS ONLY:
Many teachers have approached us for help in using the various blogs and connecting their content with the National Curriculum in the United Kingdom; a task that is easier promised than done!
Experienced and knowledgeable may wish to develop their own solutions. In such cases, I welcome their ideas and insights for sharing the learning process. A general networking site for teachers only has been created at http://ephemeralarts-teachers.blogspot.com/
There will be teachers who may not want to spend too much time in sending detailed information on sharing their experience! They may just want to send in pictures or links to other sites. They may do so by using this site.
A number of teachers have asked for more practical guidance; a step by step guide to learning about Ephemeral Arts and incorporating them into the National Curriculum of the UK. They need an interactive and personalised service which helps them to learn at their own pace and to become a resource in their school or region.
An ONLINE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS, based on distance learning principles is now under development. It should be available by January 2010. Please register with us to acquire the first test pages free of charge!
